HOUSE ROUTINE AND SCHEDULE

HOUSE ROUTINE

Every resident has their own routine, rooted in a fixed schedule.
There is a fixed schedule in the boarding house, predictable and known by all residents, which supports a sense of stability. At the same time, there are spaces in the schedule where multiple choices are available for the residents, and every resident gets to fashion their day to their needs and character.
Meal times don’t change and form an anchor in the schedule, and between the meals, at any given moment, several activities occur in different areas of the boarding house and each resident has the chance to choose the activity they prefer to take part in.

THE SCHEDULE IN AMIT

MORNING – “EMPLOYMENT”

As part of our aspiration to simulate the Israeli life trajectory, morning hours in Amit boarding house are devoted for work. The boarding house employment room starts operating after breakfast and continues until lunch. In the employment room residents work in simple packaging and manufacturing jobs adjusted to their abilities. All income from this work goes directly to them. Another place of employment is the petting zoo, where all the maintenance is done by the residents, under guidance of the staff. There is also an assortment of special activities and enrichment classes that take place every morning.

AFTERNOON – REST(?)

After lunch, the boarding house shifts to a quieter state. Residents who wish to rest may do so in their rooms. This is also when showers take place, with extra care for the resident’s privacy and safety.
After shower time, residents who don’t wish to rest may come to the central activity room, which becomes a play center. The staff leads social games, creative activities and board games. The computer room and the Gymboree are also open.
Who would even want to rest?

AFTERNOON – “LEISURE TIME”

Afternoon activity begins immediately after the 4PM meal, with a group talk and the “Token Ceremony”. Our Token program forms a base for the residents’ personal program. In this program residents earn Tokens which are used to purchase goods in the cafeteria. The afternoon opens with happiness. Residents receive positive reinforcement for success in simple tasks. After the Token Ceremony, enrichment classes and leisure activities commence. They include a wide array of artistic and athletic activities, formed to fit the residents’ will.
