OUR LIFE ROUTINE

WHEN ARE WE OPEN?

WORKING HOURS: 24/7/365

Amit Hostel, Ramla functions as a home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The hostel’s staff accompanies its residents all through the day, standing at their and your disposal at any given moment.

VISITNG HOURS: ANY HOUR OF THE DAY

Once the new resident is fully absorbed and incorporated in the hostel’s daily routines, their family members are welcome to visit at any time. The hostel is the residents’ home. Just like visiting anyone’s home, it is customary to announce your visit in advance, but we are aware of the families’ need to perform surprise visits in order to build trust in the program and therefore we emphasize: visit as much as you like, we love hosting!

OFFICE WORKING HOURS:

The hostel manager and staff may be contacted Sunday through Thursday, between 8:00-15:00.

In urgent cases outside office hours, you may leave a message with the shift manager and we will contact you as soon as possible.

ROUTINE AND SCHEDULE

Every resident has their own routine, rooted in a fixed schedule.
There is a fixed schedule in the hostel, predictable and known by all residents, in which there are spaces where multiple choices are available for the residents, and every resident gets to fashion their day to their needs and character. The schedule consists of various activities including work, enrichment classes, meals, leisure activities etc.

After breakfast, the residents go to their occupation programs out in the community, save for residents who have a reason to stay in.

MORNING TIME

As part of “the Israeli life” ideology, mornings are dedicated for work. After breakfast the residents go out to occupation programs – some residents go to protected occupation programs, some go out to the free market and some to educational programs or volunteer work, all according to the needs, will and abilities of the resident.
Amit staff is tasked with finding appropriate jobs for every resident according to their abilities and will.
The salaries go to the residents only.

Some residents are addressed to protected occupation centers (“Occupation Rehabilitation Centers”). We work with ORC Lod and ORC Beit Ekstein in Ramla.

According to their abilities, some residents work in free market factories, supervised by ORC staff.

Residents of high independence and work skill have various jobs in the free market according to their abilities and will, such as working in laundromats, the food industry, shops etc.

Young residents who are interested and found suitable may join “Magshimim Halom” project and serve in the military.

“OTZMOT PROJECT” UNIVERSITY STUDIES

“OTZMOT PROJECT” UNIVERSITY STUDIES

The project takes place on Bar-Ilan University campus. It incorporates people with developmental disabilities in the university’s educational studies program.

AFTERNOON AND ENRICHMENT CLASSES

Leisure activities begin when the residents come home from work. Amit Hostel is an open home and many residents spend their afternoons out, utilizing the city’s leisure and culture facilities. In addition to those, the residents have their choice of enrichment classes and activities at their disposal at home. They include a wide variety of activities based in art and sports, which changes and adjusts to what the residents want.

A weekly class, taught by a professional guide who specializes teaching people with special needs.

The residents may join a yoga group instructed by Avi Uziel (certified yoga instructor and shiatsu therapist specialized in working with people with special needs.)

Residents can learn how to play the keyboard. The keyboard orchestra performs regularly in the hostel’s parties.

The class is held weekly. It is taught by a certified special education teacher who focuses on promoting and preserving the residents’ reading and writing skills. The class is taught in a fun atmosphere while using a wide array of tools adjusted to the residents’ needs and wants.

Twice a week we send groups to activities in the community club – “Nitzotzei Hazohar” in Ramla.

Every day groups go out on a route where they receive physical exercise as well as exposure to the outside.

The class is held weekly and develops the residents’ motor skills and sense of rhythm, and its participants also perform in the hostel’s parties.

An exercise class with a certified instructor. It is held in “Nitzotzei Hazohar” club utilizing proper fitness equipment.

Once a week our residents meet with a math teacher.

COOKING

A weekly workshop lead by the hostel’s staff. It includes simple and more complex recipes, aspiring to teach and strengthen the resident’s skills in anything regarding meal preparation.

A workshop taught by the hostel’s staff, dealing in making art pieces as well as practical art.

ADULT EXERCISE

A class run by the hostel’s staff and instructed by a physical therapist who adjusts the activity to the needs of the participants.

A weekly activity for singing enthusiasts. It is held by a professional instructor who teaches Israeli songs of various genres.

KARAOKE PARTIES

KARAOKE PARTIES

Karaoke parties have become most popular in Israel in recent years, and the same has happened in the hostel. The Karaoke parties are held in the hostel’s club and are open to all the residents.

DANCE PARTIES

DANCE PARTIES

The dance parties are held in the hostel weekly. It is accompanied by a DJ who plays hits from all times and of all genres.

COSMETICS

COSMETICS

The cosmetics class is taught by an Amit staff member and includes makeup workshop, fashion etc.

CURRENT AFFAIRS

A group lead by a hostel staff member, who conducts conversations and social activities regarding the news of the time.

PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOPS

PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOPS

Personal empowerment and promotion programs happen regularly in Amit and are operated by the therapeutic and educational staff in collaboration with other professional staff in the hostel. The program aims to create improvement in all fields of life, utilizing joyful and pleasant ways which encourage participation and success.

HOLIDAYS, PARTIES AND LEIZURE

Amit hostel, Ramla sustains a traditional Jewish lifestyle, celebrating all the holidays. Some of the events are held in the hostel itself and some in the social clubs of the city, and in collaboration with other communal programs.
In addition to the holidays, the hostel celebrates the residents’ birthdays together with their families.
During the summer extra activities are held including going out for shows, inviting artists to the hostel, and trips and vacations in Israel and abroad.
In recent years residents visited Malta, Cyprus, Prague, and went on a cruise in the Mediterranean.

MEALS

Breakfast and dinner are served in the apartments. They are prepared with the counseling of the hostel’s nutritionist, and are supervised by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Social Affairs’ nutrition supervisor and a supervisor from the Ministry of Health. Alongside these, the menu is adjusted to fit each resident’s preferences and needs.
Lunches are the workplaces’ responsibility.
